MEN’S 18 HOLE COMPETITIONS & MATCHES SATURDAY MEN’S HAGGLE

The rules governing the Saturday haggles will be set by the WGC MMC. Please enquire on the day. These Saturday haggles may be cancelled should the Match committees require to relocate a tournament, or the course is hired out.

HOLE IN ONE There is a hole in one competition available to all registered Men WGC Members. This competition is available only on the Men’s WGC sanctioned golf competitions on Saturdays.

TWO’S Two’s are inclusive as part of the Standard Haggle fee on all Saturdays and Thursdays. Haggle fees are paid for at the shop counter prior to teeing off. Additional to the two’s there is a snowball for two twos on a Thursday.

FOUNDERS (PREMIER) 2022: The Founders is an 18 hole WGC Men’s Ambrose competition. The winners are the team with the best net score. This is a shotgun start and there will be a card draw to select teams. The number of players per team is dependant on entries on the day.

FORTUNE (PREMIER) 2022:  The Fortune will be played as a best ball competition in pairs. Each golfer plays his own ball throughout the round; a team’s score for a given hole is the lower one of the two players. The winners are the pair with the best net score.

JOE KINGI MEMORIAL (PREMIER) 2022:

Played off the white tees. Teams of four, 27 Hole competition; 9 holes Ambrose net, followed by 18 holes where the best 3 net scores count on a hole-by-hole basis. No handicap restrictions. The team’s handicap is the total of the four team players’ white tee handicaps, divided by 8.

TOM BURKE & PEACE CUP (PREMIER) Sponsored by Buddle Bentley McCleary Ltd 2022:

The Tom Burke and Peace Cup will be played as two rounds. The Tom Burke will be awarded to the best pair after the first round, this will be a best ball net competition in pairs. Each golfer plays his own ball throughout the round, a team’s score for a given hole is the lower net score of the two players. The Peace Cup will be the lowest total net score of the two rounds. The Peace Cup will be played as foursomes. Foursomes is where two partners compete together as a side by alternating in making strokes at a single ball. The rules for this form of play are essentially the same as for individual play, except for requiring partners to alternate in teeing off to start a hole and to play out each hole with alternate shots. This will be a net competition. The pair’s handicap for the Peace Cup round is determined by adding the two players’ white tee handicaps together and then dividing it by 2. The pair’s total handicap for the Tom Burke and Peace Cup should not be less than 15 combined.

SHOOTOUT Sponsored by Whakatane Mill Ltd

The shootout will be played over 6 designated net rounds and additional net rounds at the discretion of the Men’s Match Committee. Qualifications will be based on the 6 best rounds taken from a combination of the qualifying and non-qualifying rounds. Players must play in at least 3 of the 6 qualifying rounds to qualify for the final. The entry fee of $15 is to be paid by the player, before playing their 1st designated qualifying round. The cost of additional rounds will be $2.00 per round. After the final round, the top 19 players qualify for the Shootout final. This Final is an elimination round played over 18 holes. One player is eliminated per hole based on their net score on the hole. Should there be a tie on a hole, then the players with the worst nets will enter a chip off eliminator, set by y the Umpire under guidance of the Men’s Match Committee.

THE FOUR MAJORS (PREMIER)

The Four Majors is a Blue Tee Net Competition. There are four rounds and will be played on the same weekend as the Four Golf Majors, weather permitting. The winners of the individual Majors will be decided per day. All Four Majors rounds qualify for Premier points.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS STROKE PLAY & MATCH PLAY

The Club Championships Stroke Play and Match Play have been separated in the Calendar this year – the Stroke Play will be played in the first two weekends of May and the Match Play will be played at the usual time in late August / early September. The Stroke Play results will still be used for seeding the Match Play draw.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS STROKE PLAY (PREMIER) Sponsored by Lewis Ramsay, Harcourts 2022:

Best 3 rounds gross in divisions. Four divisions - Senior +4 to 9.4 Intermediate 9.5 to 15.4 Junior 15.5 to 21.4 Presidents 21.5 to 36. In the event of ties “sudden death” play off. Second and Third rounds will be played in one weekend, weather permitting. Rounds two and three will be seeded with allocated tee times. Seniors and Intermediate off the Blue Tees, Junior and Presidents off the white tees. Rounds completed outside of the allocated tee times will not be counted. An allocation of Premier Points will be awarded to golfers for the best total net scores after the 3 rounds separately across blue and white tees.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS MATCH PLAY Sponsored by Lewis Ramsay, Harcourts 2022:

Golfers will play in same divisions as Stroke Play and will be seeded based on the results of the Stroke Play, however players that are unable to participate in the Stroke Play will be eligible to compete in the Match Play with prior notification to the MMC. These players will be entered as un-seeded; these players may not qualifyAll matches up to and including semi-finals will be competed over 18 holes. The finals must be completed on the set date, weather permitting, and allocated tee times will be given. Finals will be over 36 holes except for the Presidents division, which will be contested over 18 holes. Any change to this date will be at the discretion of the Men’s Match Committee. Matches prior to the finals can be mutually arranged and completed on any day provided the match is completed before the next Match Play round.

POWDRELL CUP 2022:Members 55 years of age and over at the time of the event. Best Nett over the first round of the strokeplay championships. Those qualified please record Powdrell cup on their card.

2023 MEN’S NET MATCH PLAY COMPETITION & PLATE New for 2023 - Individual Men’s Net Match Play Competition and Plate.

This will be open to all men members across the full handicap range. Each round will be played over 18 holes and if the players are square after 18 holes, they continue until a player wins a hole (sudden death). Losers of the first round Match Play go into the Plate competition. This competition will be played over a 4-month period with each round played over a 2- 3 week period and players can play their matches concurrently while playing in the weekly men’s Thursday / Saturday haggle, or at any mutually agreed time as a singles match if they want to. We hope to encourage most of our men players to participate in this competition.

IRISH FOURBALL

The Irish Four ball competition is played in teams of four. Each player plays their own ball for the entire round. The team’s score is calculated as follows; Holes 1-6 total of the best two players’ net scores, holes 7-12 total of the best three players’ net scores and holes 13-18 total of all four players’ net scores. The winning team is the team with the lowest total net score

MEN’S PENNANTS

This year we are going to run two Senior Division Pennants Teams. The A team will play in the Championship Division and will be captained by Adam Broadmore . The Senior B team will play in the Seniors Division and will be captained by Troy Doherty  Besides the two Senior Divisions we will also run an Intermediates Pennants Team – this will be captained by Josh Mitchell . 

2023 BARKER CUP Sponsored by Whakatane Commercial Spares 2022:

This is a season long competition and points will be awarded to the top fourteen golfers on the day of a Premier Points competition. Premier Competitions include individual, pairs and team competitions of which there are ten. The final round will be completed by the Top 12 golfers including ties. The top twelve golfers will be decided on the total points over the best 8 rounds. The final round will consist of a net round where double points will be awarded.
